Why northerners are called yankees

At the time of the Civil War, the South could be described as urban and the North as pastoral. The Civil War has been called the first modern war because of the impact of new weapons and new technology. In the Southern United States, Yankee is a derisive term which refers to all Northerners, and during the American Civil War was applied by Confederates to soldiers of the Union army in general.

Delinquent describes something or someone who fails to accomplish that which is required by law, duty, or contractual agreement, such as the failure to make a required payment or perform a particular action. Some yank opened the door for us and my father said thank you but the guy didn't hear him so he went off on us like a fucking asshole. He started cussing and asking us a million questions at a time like all yankees do when they get angry and we're just like what the fuck is your problem. He was saying 'what don't ya fuckin know how to say thank you? Ya fuckin asswipe I hate people like you'. Typical asshole yankee.

A yankee will drive down the road and if someone cuts him off he will start yelling and honking his horn, after the 'asshole who cut him off' has gone on they will talk to themselves or their family about it for the rest of the car ride, even if its a 6 hour trip to VA Beach.

They'll say shit like "what a fucking asshole cant ya see Im driving here you asshole? You got a fucking problem with my driving huh? These fucking hicks in the south cant drive for shit". At that same moment they will cut somebody else off and when that car honks their horn at the yanks they will start screaming at them saying 'what the fuck asshole dont ya know how to drive!

Cant ya see Im turning here asswipe!? Assholes they are the lot of them, and by the way, if you ever see a tag from NY on the road, get the fuck away from him. You will either a: Suffer from road rage because of his moronic driving or b: Get killed in a car crash because they have no idea how to drive whatsoever.

And if you ever have a yankee move in next to you, don't try to befriend them. Other times, it's a playful term. In the United States, the term specifically refers to residents of New England. During the Civil War , and even after the war came to an end, Yankee was a term used by Southerners to describe their rivals from the Union , or northern, side of the conflict. After the war, Yankee was once again mostly used to describe New Englanders.

Yankees have been important players in politics. Often, there is a stereotype associated with Yankee politicians: they are white, wealthy, and attended elite colleges like Harvard University. Yankee politicians are often associated with civic pride and public service. Former Presidents John F. Bush from Massachusetts and Maine are considered cultural Yankees.

No one is really sure where the word Yankee came from. Some say a British general named James Wolfe used it first in when he was commanding some New England soldiers. Others say the word comes from the Cherokee word eankke , which means coward.

Some say it comes from a Dutch word, since many immigrant s from the Netherlands settled in the northeast part of the United States. The song " Yankee Doodle " is a familiar one to many who grew up in the United States. It started out as a well-known British song, dating back to the early s.

The song describes a sloppy person. Its lyrics were sung originally by British military officers to mock the amateur "Yankee" soldiers of the American Colonies. Eventually, the song, now the state anthem of Connecticut, became the first national anthem of the United States. The American author E. White came up with a funny summary of how to keep the term straight.

Even before the American Revolutionary War , the term Yankee was used by the British to refer, derisively, to the American colonists. Since the Civil War , American southerners have called all northerners Yankees. Since World War I , the rest of the world has used the term to refer to all Americans.
